Why not?

That was the question I asked my friend, Nathalia, when she told me that what she really wanted to do was cook for people.

It was a challenge, sure, but it was also a genuine question. The girl knows how to cook; it made sense that she should cook for a living. And okay, so maybe I nudged her along on this culinary path a little—“You could so do this for a living,” and “I have PAID money to eat the quality of food you are cooking,” and “Do you really want to work in banking forever?”—But I didn’t tell her anything she didn’t already know, not if she dug down deep inside and gave herself permission to dream.

For any of you who have tried one, or several, of Nathalia’s concoctions, you already know what I am talking about. This girl has talent. Not only does she have a talent for cooking, but she also has a talent for people. She has a patient, kind, easygoing manner about her, and she loves to teach. And did I mention she knows how to cook? Like, really well?

The only one who ever doubted her skills was she herself. The idea of her actually cooking for a living, or even making an attempt to see if she could do it, seemed like a fantasy, far from the reality of her day job. But every time we talked about it, I could see how excited she got and how much she wanted the fantasy to be real. So I encouraged her. Let’s be honest, there was something in it for me too: if I could get my friend cooking delicious meals on a regular cheapest vardenafil online basis, I could offer a helping hand by being her primary taste-tester.

It only took a little kindling to start the fire. Once the heat was on, the flames started to catch, and Cucina di Zia (Auntie’s Kitchen) was born. She bought a domain name, designed a logo, established a LLC, ordered business cards, and started telling people about what she was doing. She made it real. And now that she’s done this, her friends and family are flocking to her side to support her.

“It’s all because of you,” she said to me last night, at Cucina di Zia’s open house dinner sampling and photo shoot.

I shook my head and smiled at her. “It was a group effort,” I said. I couldn’t take any of the credit. She just needed someone to believe in her, and I never had any problem doing that. Every time she would bake a batch of popovers or whip up a beautiful plate of chicken piccata for me, I believed in her more.

So if you've got a "crazy" idea, or a "silly" dream, tell your friends about it. Just saying the words out loud will make the dream more real to you. And once you do, you just might be surprised at how much support you’ll get from those around you. They want you to succeed, and seeing your success will fuel their own crazy ideas and silly dreams.

As for Cucina di Zia, the fresh pasta is still being made and the menus perfected. I’ll let you know when it’s open for business.
